Support and funders

Support work that is already rooted here.

Gartmore is a small, trustee-led charity with a long record of supporting people with disabilities through riding, equine learning and accessible outdoor education.

Discuss a project

Why support is needed

Local opportunity should not depend on whether a mainstream setting can adapt.

01

Accessible local provision

People with disabilities and their families can face barriers when rural, outdoor and equine settings are not designed around different access needs.

02

Consistent, supported settings

Mainstream environments can create barriers when clear routines, familiar staff, accessible facilities or quieter spaces are not available.

03

Capacity for schools and partners

Demand from families, schools and community organisations is greater than the site can currently accommodate.

What support enables

Practical outcomes for people, families and local services.

Move

Develop balance, coordination, strength and physical confidence through meaningful activity.

Learn

Build practical skills, routines, communication and responsibility through horses and the outdoors.

Belong

Take part in a familiar setting with peers, experienced staff and volunteers.

Regulate

Use quieter spaces, animals and nature to support emotional wellbeing and confidence.

Current capital priorities

Connecting the next phase of outdoor learning.

The Movement Hub now provides a base for physical activity and play, with a sensory room, kitchen and accessible support facilities. The next phase is to connect it more fully with Gartmore’s classrooms, sensory garden and established woodland education pathway.

01

Inclusive outdoor classroom

A covered, secure teaching space close to toilets, changing facilities and sensory support.

02

Sensory garden & food-growing walk

Calm planting, textures, raised beds and an accessible route for growing, harvesting and learning.

03

One connected learning route

A safe link between active play, outdoor teaching, food growing, cooking and the existing woodland trail.
